Before Care Had a Name: The Stories We Carry Home
What happens when we stop trying to fix caregivers for a moment and simply listen to them?
A year ago, Charlotte took a deeply vulnerable idea, packed up microphones and cameras, and flew to Puerto Rico to begin recording something unlike anything she had created before.
The result is Narratives of Care, a new 12 episode narrative podcast centered on the voices, memories, and lived experiences of caregivers across Puerto Rico.
In this special episode of The Cancer Caregiver Podcast, Charlotte shares why these stories needed more room, how one unexpected theme home began connecting families across different diagnoses and circumstances, and why caregiving often begins long before anyone gives it a name.
You’ll meet Margarita’s family, whose story begins not with a diagnosis, but with small changes that became harder to explain. You’ll also hear how the meaning of home shifts when illness enters the picture when home is the place you’re fighting to stay, the place you desperately want to return to, or even the place you sometimes need to escape.
This episode is an invitation to experience caregiving differently: not through advice, solutions, or strategies, but through listening.
Because when caregivers are given the space to tell the whole story, their experiences can make something in our own lives feel a little more visible too.
